I have been fascinated by the sound of Sanskrit and intrigued about the wisdom preserved in ancient texts, but I thought "learning Sanskrit is too difficult for a busy man in Germany. I mean, these letters look exotic and decorative, but one must be born in India to read them". Thus, I relied on transliteration to latin letters (like “Kṛṣṇa”) and thought "that’s enough for this lifetime".
However, when I found a teacher who showed me the system to decipher and write the symbols, I learned most letters in only 2 weeks while commuting by train. After 6 weeks I could read the Bhagavad-gītā at a slow, but steady pace.
I’ve been studying Sanskrit in Vrindavan and Varanasi, India, since 2017 from Dr. Satyanarayana Dasa Babaji, Dr. Jagadananda Dasa, Dr. Balarama Dasa, Purushottama Prabhu, Dileep Chandravanshi, and Shubha Vengadakrishnan.
